European Union Studies Certificate program

The European Union Certificate program provides students with an interdisciplinary course of study on Europe and the European Union. The certificate is designed to appeal to students interested in Europe. In addition, it is suitable for all students who will be pursuing careers in Europe or in fields related to Europe. The certificate is suitable, regardless of whether the student will enter the business, government, academic or non-profit sphere.

More than half of all foreign investment in the U.S. derives from the European Union. Georgia receives $14 billion in investments from the EU while exporting $3 billion. As Europe expands its political union during the next century, there will be exciting opportunities for Georgians interested in working with Europeans or in Europe.

A student can pursue a certificate in European Union Studies in one of two ways. Under the academic track, a certificate is taken in tandem with an undergraduate degree program. Students from all academic majors are eligible to participate as long as they possess a minimum 2.75 cumulative GPA. Under the professional track, non-degree students — such as business executives — are eligible to enroll in the program upon proof of a valid undergraduate degree from an accredited institution. The minimum GPA requirement is waived.

Dr. Ne14 The certificate requirements include 18 hours from a range of disciplines. All students must take EURO 2105: Introduction to the European Union (Fall Semester) and EURO 4105: Senior Capstone Seminar (fall semester). The remaining 12 semester hours must be taken from the menu of courses listed below.

Before entering the certificate program, students must complete HIST 1111 or HIST 1112, EURO 2001 (with a grade of "C" or higher) and 30 semester credit hours. The student must also have "real-life" experience of the EU gained through study abroad or an internship. Upon completion of the program, students receive a certificate and an acknowledgement on their transcript.
