Contemporary Health Issues: Andros Island, Bahamas

The goal of this study abroad program is to educate students on a medical topic while immersing them in the communities and environment of Andros Island in the Bahamas. This study abroad opportunity is designed for undergraduate students interested in the biological basis of international health. The course will have three main objectives: (i) understanding health issues of the Bahamas and how they relate to those of the United States; (ii) educating the Andros Island community on a health focus; and (iii) integrating health and the environment on the island.

Program Highlights

Experience service-learning as you visit clinics on Andros Island and educate local Bahamians on specific health issues

Relate common health issues found in the United States to those found on Andros Island

Stay at Forfar Field Station, experience the island culture, visit a variety of subtropical environments
