TESOL Practicum in KoreaStudents can participate in this study abroad opportunity if they have completed at least 3 required courses for the completion of TESOL Certificate program at Columbus State University. Students will spend a week in CSU-Pukyung National University exchange program (July 19-25). After that, students teach in an English immersion camp for 8-12 year old Korean children and participate in various cultural and recreational activities with these Korean students during the two-week period (from July 26 – August 6, 2010). This program aims to expose students at CSU to Asian culture in the context of teaching English as a foreign language to elementary and middle school students in Korea. It is hoped that participation in this program will help to enhance students' awareness of different cultures and languages. Secondly, this program will provide students with the opportunity to use the knowledge and skills they acquired from other courses required for the TESOL certificate as they teach English to speakers of Korean as the first language. This teaching experience will help students learn not only about difficulties an ESL learner encounters in their attempt to learn English, but also to sharpen their teaching skills and techniques as they strive to teach English more effectively and interact with non-English speaking population in an EFL setting. Program HighlightsAside from gaining valuable international teaching experiences, students will also participate in several field trips planned throughout the program, like:
